The University of Newcastle has an impressive track record for producing groundbreaking research which changes people’s lives.  Our researchers discovered the placental clock that determines the timing of birth, developed a viral therapy to kill cancer cells, produced smart sensors for illicit drug detection, designed mechanisms to convert pollutants into useful solid products and revolutionized the separation of minerals and coal from wastewater.

 

To guarantee our position as one of the top research higher education institutions in Australia, the University has embarked on a new era driven by stronger strategy, maximizing our competitive strengths and greater delivery for the region. The 10 Priority Research Centres will focus the University’s resources into areas of existing and potential research strength, and promote cross-faculty and cross disciplinary research.
