The Centre actively fosters research and development that enhances the effectiveness of food, medicinal herb and nutrition related industries to deliver economic and social benefits to the Australian community. Its research programs are directed at utilising basic chemistry, physics, biochemistry, physiology and microbiology to develop innovative products or reduce wastage, working with the food and medicinal herb industry and community health groups to generate functional foods, gaining a better understanding of the manner in which changes in the community are affecting demand for new and existing foods and herbal products, and supporting the development of emerging food and related industry sectors to bring products to market. Centre research programs are supervised by 10 academic staff of diverse discipline backgrounds and supported by 25 postgraduate research students from many countries.
