The Centre of Full Employment and Equity (CofFEE) was opened by the University Vice Chancellor in December 1998 and its Constitution, formalising the objectives and the management of the Centre, was approved by the University Council in October 2000. CofFEE seeks to undertake and promote research into the goals of full employment, price stability and achieving an economy that delivers equitable outcomes for all. Its main focus is on macroeconomics, labour economics and financial analysis. The Centre has developed significant international research collaborations with academics in US and European universities. In 2001, the Centre opened a branch in Europe, located at the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands. CofFEE-Europe pursues the Centre's research agenda in the European context. CofFEE convenes two annual Conferences, one in Europe and one in Australia, and hosts regular research workshops and public policy lectures. CofFEE's website, http://e1.newcastle.edu.au/coffee/index.cfm includes educational pages, on-line working papers, research papers and policy notes. CofFEE staff currently supervise 15 PhD students across a wide range of research projects within its ambit.
