FACS Vantage Cell and Particle Sorting

The FACS Vantage allows the isolation of defined cell subset(s) from heterogenous mixtures. Cells can be sorted according to size, granularity, surface markers (up to 9 colour fluorescence and 4 sorting paramaters) and DNA content at a speed of up to 70,000 cells per second. Chromosomes and non-cellular particle sorting are also possible.  An advantage of using the FACS Vantage is that cells can be sorted in a sterile environment enabling the recovered cells to be cultured. This is especially applicable to transfected cells, where only a small proportion of the cells may express the antigen of interest.

The FACS Vantage is located on the 4th Floor of the Life Sciences Building at Newcastle University. The facility is open to both University of Newcastle and external customers. Reservations need to be made for the use of the FACS Aria.  High use customers can be trained in the operation of the Aria, or a trained operator can process your samples. A Cell Sorting Request form should accompany all samples. Reservations and consultations can be made by contacting Nicole Cole.
