Newcastle DNA was the 1^st unit established within the BRF with the purchase of an Applied Biosystems (ABI) 377 DNA sequencer which was installed in June 1995. Recently an Amersham Megabace 48 Capillary sequencer was purchased and installed. The sequencer is now running at full capacity, meeting the DNA sequencing requirements of researchers in the Hunter region and far beyond.
