About the Animal Care and Ethics Committee

The Terms of Reference, and constitution, of the Animal Care and Ethics Committee must be in accordance with the NSW Animal Research legislation. Links on this page also provide information on the procedures following by the Committee in considering applications for approval for a project involving the use of animals.

Monitoring by the Animal Care and Ethics Committee

The NSW Animal Research legislation directs the Animal Care and Ethics Committee to monitor all aspects of the care and use of animals for research or teaching purposes, and to carry out regular inspections of work areas, as well as breeding and holding areas. Inspections are performed by both members of the Committee, and the Animal Welfare Officer. To ensure consistency of reporting, standard report formats are used during regular inspections of animal breeding and research facilities by the Committee.
