October 2006 - Climate Change
The Climate Change Forum addressed one of the biggest issues facing the Hunter, Central Coast and Mid North Coast in the coming years, the regional impact of climate change, and how we can manage these challenges was discussed in depth.
Speakers focused on how climate change rates as a regional issue, forces, cycles, variability and change and matching climate knowledge to water user needs.
Meredith Laing
Meredith Laing has been the Director of the Lower Hunter & Central Coast Regional Environment Management Strategy since June 1996. Her role is to ensure that local Government has appropriate assistance, support and resources to efficiently develop and implement coordinated, regional environmental management initiatives such as their Urban Water Cycle Management Program. Many aspects of this initiative have been emulated throughout NSW and in other states of Australia.
She is a member of the Australian Landcare Council’s Coordinators and Facilitators Working group.
Ian Goodwin
Doctor Ian Goodwin is a Senior Lecturer in Earth Sciences at the University of Newcastle. He is an Earth Scientist who specialises in climatology, palaeoclimatology and coastal geoscience. He has particular expertise with regard to the Australasian, Antartic and South-West Pacific climate, sea level and coastal issues.
Ian has a Bachelor of Surveying and a Masters in Applied Science from the University of New South Wales and a PhD from the University of Tasmania.
Greg Laughlin
Doctor Greg Laughlin is the Senior Principal Scientist working in the Climate Impact Sciences Programme for the Australian Government Bureau of Rural Sciences. The programme deals with issues such as drought, rainfall reliability, climate change and risk to agriculture and water management.
