Professional Learning in Special Education and Disability Studies
Academic staff from the Special Education Centre deliver a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and programs in Special Education and Disability Studies.
Special Education
All students undertaking pre-service teacher education at the University of Newcastle complete a compulsory course designed to assist them to teach students with special needs in the regular classroom. In addition, undergraduate teacher education students may complete a special education specialisation in their final year of study. At the postgraduate level, the Master of Special Education allows qualified and experienced teachers to undertake a specialisation in special education.
Disability Studies
This study program is designed for staff working in a wide range of community services (non school educational) for people with a disability. The Graduate Certificate and the Master of Disability Studies provide postgraduate training for staff in employment, residential, community access and other disability services.
