Welcome
Welcome! This electronic resource has been created to provide you with information about the Rainbow Readers (RR) program. We hope that it will assist you in deciding whether a similar reading program may be an attractive option for a community you work with. We have also compiled as much detail as possible about our process to save you from needing to totally ‘reinvent the wheel’. After all – who in the community sector has time for that!?
While there is a barrage of information here about the nuts and bolts of our program, essentially the success of Doorstop Reading relies on the agency, co-ordinator and volunteers having passion for early literacy, and recognising that every individual, family and community has innumerable strengths.
Should you choose to set up a Doorstep Reading program, it will obviously need to be tailored to the families and volunteers you have involved and the way your organisation is structured. What is written here is a description of how we went about setting-up, running, and sustainability planning for Rainbow Readers. We hope you find it useful, and invite you to contact the Family Action Centre regarding any questions or feedback you have. Our Rainbow Readers journey has led us to become very passionate about the potential of Doorstep Reading. We are very keen to share what we have learned and assist any community interested in implementing something similar.
