Indigenous Posters Project

A major initiative of the Family Action Centre has been the work of the Indigenous Fathers Project coordinated by Craig Hammond.  The project aims to promote the well-being of children 0-8 years of age by engaging fathers and father figures in their lives.  The project has also provided training, developed resources and conducted research.

Resources of note include;

  • Indigenous Dads posters
  • Young Aboriginal Fathers Research report
  • The Strengths and Skills of  Indigenous Dads, Uncles, Pops and Brothers DVD

The Indigenous Posters Project will involve the Family Action Centre working in collaboration with SNAICC to develop local and national posters targeting Indigenous fathers and children aged 0-6 years. 

The project would involves the following activities;

  • Three to five National Posters profiling Indigenous fathers with children aged 0-6 years.
  • Three to five Local Community Posters reflecting positive messages of Indigenous communities.
  • Visiting and consulting with a number of local communities.
  • Printing and design of the posters.
  • Undertake regular consultation and advise from SNAICC reference groups.

The National Posters should be available by December 2005.

The Indigenous Posters Project involved and the Family Action Centre working in collaboration with Secreteriate National Association of Indigenous Child Care (SNAICC) to develop local and national posters targeting Indigenous fathers and children aged 0-6 years.

  • Five National Posters profiling Indigenous fathers with children aged 0-6 years
  • Five Local Community Sets of Posters reflecting the communities own positive messages about Fathers with their young children and babies. The local communities were from Northern Territory, Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland.

A facilitators guide and templates that local communities can follow to develop their own set of Fathers Posters: visit the SNAICC website www.snaicc.asn.au to download the information. SNAICC will print the posters for your community.
