Communities for Children (Raymond Terrace & Karuah)
What is it about?
The Communities for Children is an exciting local initiative in Raymond Terrace and Karuah. Supported by the Australian Government as part of the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy, two million dollars have been invested over a four year period (2005-09) to support projects /activities that aim to improve the health and development of children aged 0 to 5 years.
These projects/activities will focus on supporting parents through improved antenatal care, home-visiting, playgroups and/or parenting courses, building a child-friendlier community through strengthening social networks, community events and education and improving the early learning and literacy opportunities for children.
The Family Action Centre at the University of Newcastle and the Smith Family are the Facilitating Partners for this local initiative. Our Community Partners are well known and respected local organisations who have been selected to deliver a range of innovative projects which commenced n May 2006.
