Pedagogy in Practice conference

Since its inauguration in 2004, the CPLE's annual Pedagogy in Practice conference has successfully provided educators with an opportunity to sustain a focus on the continuing developments in school pegagogy articulated in the Quality Teaching materials, developed by the New South Wales Department of Education and Training, in consultation with Associate Professor James Ladwig and Professor Jenny Gore from the School of Education. The Discussion Paper indicates that the Quality Teaching framework is not intended to be the final word on pedagogy. PiP upholds this intention by providing a context for productive collaboration, within which local, national and international stakeholders in education can share their research data, their experiences from implementing the ideas in the model, the processes they have used, and the subsequent impact on student learning outcomes.

This initiative has brought much acclaim to the School of Education and the University more broadly. Such acclamation is consistently expressed through participant evaluations that extol the conference for the quality and content of keynote presentations and the range of presentations and workshops that speak to current practices and difficulties in teaching, the atmosphere of enthusiasm, passion and positivity produced by inspiring speakers, and the opportunity to network and renew professional acquaintances. Over 95% of the participants from each conference have indicated that they would come to another conference. With recommendations for future directions centered on the need to structure a workshop timetable that enables greater depth and focus in presentations, and time for more substantive interaction among participants, the conference clearly finds justification for its continued existence in a demographic who zealously seek to be enriched by this unique professional development opportunity.

PiP participants have enjoyed the opportunity to hear from local, national and internationally renowned keynote speakers. See the table below for a brief history of PiP's keynote speakers.
