A Profile of Human Resource Management in Multinational Enterprises Operating in Australia
Centre for Institutional and Organisation Studies researchers Prof John Burgess (conjoint Prof of Employment Relations) and Dr Brendan Boyle (Lecturer in International Business at Newcastle Business School) recently completed the Australian leg of a large-scale study investigating the HRM practices of multinational enterprises (MNEs). This CIOS sponsored study of employment practice and their transfer across countries is part of the INTREPID research network [Investigation of Transnationals' Employment Practices: an International Database]. INTREPID involves comparative studies of HRM in MNEs across 10 different host-country contexts. The overarching aim of this international study is to explore the extent to which pressure for developing globally integrated HRM policies and practices and the provision for local autonomy vary between MNEs from the same country and to what extent it differs between MNEs in different host countries.
