Elasto-plastic Strain Based Approach for Analysing Rail Track Behaviour
Research Abstract
An elasto-plastic ballast model is proposed that can be used to judge the bearing capacity of ballasted railway tracks. The model describes the rate of the irreversible, plastic deformation generated during the cyclic loading process and incorporates the degradation of particles during triaxial shearing. The reversible response is represented by the pressure-dependent non-linear material rule. After the numerical integration of the model is specified, the model is calibrated on laboratory experiments and employed in a finite-element case study of the bearing capacity of railway track.
