- 2001 Chandra Desai Medal, awarded by the International Association For Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics, in January 2001, "for outstanding and sustained contributions to the solution of a wide range of geotechnical problems including development and application of large deformation analyses, effects of pile installation, interpretation of in situ tests, analysis of jointed rock masses, linear and non-linear problems in porous media including their thermomechanical response, foundations for offshore structures, development of constitutive relations, particularly for structured soils, and for the analysis of cyclic loading".
