Research Topic
Probabilistic models for dynamic collapse of offshore platforms under extreme waves
Research Abstract
The principal motivation of this project is to establish a framework for probabilistic dynamic collapse analysis of jack-up platforms under extreme wave loads. The developed methodology will be based on an advanced numerical model with emphasis on the non-linear structural behaviour, collapse mechanisms formation, irregular waves and complementary probabilistic sensitivity studies.
Why my research is important
Jack-ups are the most common type of mobile platforms used worldwide in the oil and gas industry. Recently, the overwhelming demand for offshore oil and gas exploration has increased the importance of these units. Although jack-ups were first employed in a relatively shallow section of the Gulf of Mexico, there has been an increasing interest in the use of jack-ups in deep waters and harsh environments. Accordingly, performing an accurate analysis of jack-up response under extreme loadings is increasingly important.
