Research Topic
Stabilization Mechanisms and Microstructural Modification of Expansive Clayey Soils using Lignosulfonate Admixture
Research Abstract
Expansive soils have been known to cause deterioration among all aspects of civil infrastructure for many years. Replacing these problematic soils is not a viable solution in that it is costly and time consuming. Chemical stabilizers (lime and cement) have proven to be an important tool in arresting the swell/shrink behavior of expansive soil. However, these traditional stabilizers pose environmental and engineering challenges, hence the quest for research into the use of a more environmental friendly chemical stabilizer known as lignosulfonate.
