Contributor Guidelines

All submissions should follow APA guidelines and be written in English.

Contributors should send digital manuscripts in Word format, by email or CD disk.

All articles should be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 300 words.

The author’s full contact details should be provided, including email and fax.

A copy of the article should be retained by the author.

Proofs are sent from AJAH to the author who must return them within ten working days. Authors should not rewrite significantly at proof stage.

Contributions are sent to at least two referees. Unsuccessful manuscripts will not be returned, unless specifically requested.
Style sheet

Style should follow the Australian Government Publishing Service Style Manual, Sixth Edition, 2002.

References in the text should be given in the author-date style:
McCallum (1990) argues... or as various authors argue (McCallum 1990; Kenway 1989). -
Page references should be thus: (McCallum 1990, p. 41).

Page references should be used for direct quotations.

The reference list should placed in alphabetical order at the end of the paper, utilising the author-date system. For a reference to a book:
McCallum, D 1990, The social production of merit, Falmer, London. -
For a reference to a chapter in a collection:
McCollow, J & Knight, J, ‘Higher Education in Australia: An Historical Overview’, in Bella, M, McCollow, J & Knight, J (eds), Higher Education in Transition, University of Queensland, Brisbane. -
For a journal reference:
Zappala, J & Lombard, M 1991, ‘The decline of Australian educational salaries’, Australian Bulletin of Labour, 17(1), pp. 76-95. -
Sub-headings should be typed in lower case, ranged left, with relative importance indicated by A, B etc.

Single quotation marks only should be used, except for quotes within quotes. All quotes of more than 50 words should be indented and placed in a separate paragraph.

Two spaces at the end of sentences.

Dates thus: 30 June 1990.

‘ise’ should be used rather than ‘ize’, eg: organise not organize.

Abbreviations should be explained at their first use, when necessary.

Male nouns and pronouns should not be used to refer to people of either sex.

Figures should be integrated in the paper. Where graphics need to be sent separately, authors are requested to indicate the position in the paper for placement of attached figures. The format used for graphics should be stated in the first page of the paper.

Photographs and illustrations may be submitted as jpg files scanned at 300 dpi
Review Process
All papers submitted for publication will be blind reviewed by two referees. All communication with authors will be via email.
