Research Fellowships

It is an exciting time to be a researcher at the University of Newcastle.  Ranked in the top 10 in Australia for research, a proven track record of innovation continues to drive our reputation as a place of research excellence.

In addition to more than 800 University academics, UoN hosts more than 200 research academics supported by external funding.  We are keen to support and provide opportunity for our researchers by providing  additional funds, specialist support and access to world-class facilities such as those available at NIER and HMRI.  UoN supports NHMRC Research Fellows with start-up funds, salary supplement and guaranteed salary support for a period of two years.  These researchers often move on to University appointments.

The Gladys M. Brawn Senior Research Fellowship

This Fellowship is one such mechanism of support available at UoN. The bequest has supported five Senior Brawn Fellows and 17 Postdoctoral Fellows, all conducting valuable research in a broadly defined field of health research, with the potential to change the lives of people around the world.

The latest recipient of a Senior Research Fellowship is Professor Amanda Baker. Professor Baker is a Clinical Psychologist who has practised in both the fields of mental health and alcohol and other drug treatments in the United Kingdom and Australia.
