About the cluster
The Joint UoN and Central Coast Food Innovation Cluster brings together researchers from across multiple disciplines within the University of Newcastle as well as experts from within the Central Coast food and beverage industry and government members.
Cluster Aims
The cluster aims to use the diverse skills, backgrounds and expertise of its participants to ensure an innovative approach to solving issues relevant to the food and beverage industry. The cluster will also generate new ideas and create new opportunities for research breakthroughs which translate into practice.
Background
On 17 February 2013, the Federal Government announced it would establish up to 10 Industry Innovation Precincts to drive business innovation and growth in areas of Australian competitive advantage. The Government has already established a Food Precinct and a Manufacturing Precinct with the remaining 8 Precincts to be selected during 2013 through a competitive process.
With the establishment of the Food Precinct, and the location of the University's Ourimbah campus within one of the country's biggest food manufacturing regions, an opportunity to establish an Innovation Cluster specifically focused on food was identified.
The establishment of the Joint UoN and Central Coast Food Innovation Cluster also falls under the values and objectives of the University of Newcastle Strategic Plan, NeW Directions.
Further Information
Participation in the cluster is open to UoN researchers, industry and government partners. We always welcome expressions of interest from potential participants. Please contact the Research Development team for further information.
