About the cluster
The Creative Industries are those industries which have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent and have a potential for job and wealth creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property.
The Creative Industries Research and Innovation Cluster (CIRIC) takes a coordinated multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach to engaging across the many stakeholders that contribute to the growth and health of contemporary creative economies.
Our research capabilities are of an extremely high standard and involve research disciplines which were rated at world standard or above through Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) ratings.
In 2015 the following disciplines achieved an ERA ranking of 4 (research 'above world standard')
- Historical Studies
- Literary Studies
A number of our disciplines related to the Creative Industries achieved a ranking of 3 (research at 'world standard')
The Creative Industries Research and Innovation Cluster (CIRIC) intends to strengthen multi and interdisciplinary research and enhance knowledge transfer capability in the Creative Industries specifically within the Central Coast and Hunter regions.
CIRIC aims to bring together experts from different fields to work with researchers to develop innovative approaches to problems faced by the Creative Industries based on the latest quantitative, qualitative and practice based research.
Supported by Newcastle Innovation, the focus of CIRIC is toward creative approaches to key issues for the Creative Industries. This cluster also aims to work closely with both government and industry to address future skills requirements of the creative industries.
The team at Newcastle Innovation can coordinate communication between internal and external participants or answer any questions you have about CIRIC.
