PhD Scholarship: Youth and the Body

A PhD Scholarship is available through the Faculty of Education and Arts at the University of Newcastle for a student to investigate youth and gender under the supervision of Dr Julia Coffey.
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Newcastle is seeking applicants for a PhD in Sociology.
The PhD is associated with Dr Julia Coffey’s qualitative research projects in youth, the body, and gender.
These projects are aimed at:
- exploring the dynamics of youth embodiment in relation to work and study;
- socialities and relationships on- and off-line;
- body image and wellbeing; and
- intersecting inequalities including gender, sexualities, ethnicity, and class.
The successful applicant will be awarded a University of Newcastle Early Career Research Higher Degree Research Scholarship (ECR HDR) which includes a stipend for 3 years.
This scholarship is available to International and Domestic applicants. A strong interest in gender studies, social theory, and intersectionality is preferred.
The value of this scholarship is $26,682 per annum in 2017, indexed in January each year. The scholarship is for a period of three years, with the possibility of a six-month extension.
The candidate will need to have completed a major in Sociology and Honours in Sociology with High Distinction or First Class average. Minimum eligibility criteria: GPA of at least 5.25 out of 7, English Proficiency, Honours Class One or equivalent. This Scholarship is open to domestic and international students.
