PHD Scholarship: Cardiovascular disease prevention for women with a history of pre-eclampsia
Tuesday, 9 May 2017
A PhD scholarship opportunity is available within the School of Health Science and HMRI for a student to study cardiovascular disease prevention for women with a history of pre-eclampsia, under the supervision of Melinda Hutchesson.
Women with a history of pre-eclampsia are three times more likely to die from cardiovascular disease (CVD) than women without it. Best practice guidelines indicate that women with a history of pre-eclampsia should receive education on appropriate nutrition and physical activity post-partum to reduce their risk of future CVD. However, currently in Australia women they do not routinely receive any advice on future CVD prevention. This research will explore the need for and effectiveness of a healthy lifestyle CVD prevention program for women with a history of pre-eclampsia.
