Great locations and campus life

University of Newcastle has two main campuses. The largest, set on 140 hectare natural bushland site, is Callaghan, 12 kilometres from the city centre of Newcastle. The other main campus is located on picturesque 85 hectare site at Ourimbah on the Central Coast, halfway between Newcastle and Sydney. Our city precinct comprises the Newcastle Business School, the Newcastle Legal Centre and the Conservatorium of Music.

The University has also recently secured $95m for the construction of a landmark education precinct in the Newcastle CBD. The NeW Space will position the University as an international leader in the provision of modern, high-tech education.

Newcastle

Newcastle is situated on the east coast of Australia, about a two hour drive north of Sydney. It is the second largest city in NSW and seventh in Australia.

In 2011, Newcastle was ranked by internationally respected Lonely Planet Guide as one of the Top Ten cities to visit in the World.

Newcastle is a beautiful and cosmopolitan city with an excellent climate. Known for its glorious beaches, relaxed lifestyle and welcoming community, Newcastle also offers a comparatively low cost of living complete with all the city comforts – restaurants, cafes, art galleries, shopping centres and nightclubs. Home to both creative and sporting festivals, you'll find a vibrant artistic scene and many opportunities for participation in sporting activities.

Access to beaches, Lake Macquarie, shopping, local galleries and the social scene are valued by both our Australian and international students. Local public transport makes getting to Uni easy and the Callaghan campus also has a shuttle bus running throughout the day and evening during semester.
