Sensory, Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience

Neuroscience in the School of Psychology embraces contemporary questions in sensory, cognitive and affective function in human and animal models of brain and behaviour.

Health is at the centre of our research goals, with a focus on early identification, problem prevention, functional restoration and maintenance across the lifespan. We address these issues at multiple levels of analysis and using various methodologies including neuropsychological testing, psychophysics and behavioural tasks, measures of brain structure and function using electrophysiology and magnetic resonance imaging, and molecular biology and immunology.

We collaborate extensively with other members of the school and clinical researchers with this cross disciplinary approach already leading to pivotal insights in vision, central auditory processing, pain, executive functioning in both typical (development, ageing) and atypical (e.g., schizophrenia, stroke) groups.
