Strengths-based Practices for Working with Aboriginal Communities
Associate Professor Jenny Cameron, Dr Paul Hodge, Dr Amanda Howard (University of Newcastle) and Dr Graeme Stuart (University of Newcastle)
This research project explores the ways that community development practitioners are working with Aboriginal communities in remote and rural locations in Australia. It documents how these practitioners are navigating the dilemmas involved in their work, especially the dilemmas that arise when they recognise and seek to build on the strengths of Aboriginal communities—strengths that are all-too-often overlooked in the prevalent “deficit framing” of Aboriginal communities.
