APP OFWG Capacity Building Course
Thursday/Friday 5/6 February, 2009, KEPRI, Korea

A course will be held at the Electric Power Research Institute, in Daejeon, South Korea, in February 2009.

The course is targeted at delegates from Asian countries where understanding of oxy-fuel technology is developing, including Korea, China, India and SE Asian countries.

The first day, February 5, will detail the status of the technology, underpinning science, laboratory, mathematical modelling and pilot-scale evaluation of coal.

The second day, February 6, will detail research developments, and the status of current international demonstrations, a session with a panel of experts to answer questions nominated prior by delegates, and a plant visit.

The course is free, and is sponsored by the APP OFWG, but delegates must cover their travel and accommodation costs. Reasonably priced accommodation will be arranged at the venue.

The course lecturers are currently being invited, and will include Dr Stanley Santos, of the International Energy Agency Greenhouse Gas program, Professor Terry Wall and Dr Jianglong Yu of the University of Newcastle, and Dr Sung-Chul Kim of KEPRI.

We are delighted that a number of international experts in oxy-fuel technology have accepted invitations to lecture in the course, including Gerry Hesselman of Doosan Babcock, stationed at Renfrew, Scotland where a large pilot-plant is nearing start-up; Professor Jorg Maier of IVD, the University of Stuttgart, Germany,  which has an active research program; and Brian Patrick of Jupiter Oxygen, of the USA, which is progressing  two of the demonstrations.

If you are interested in attending please email your nomination with details to OFWG@newcastle.edu.au as soon as possible and include your name, position, organisation, contact details (including email), your involvement and interest in oxy-fuel, and nominated questions you would put to the international panel. Please download the nomination form (Word, 32KB) .
