Bachelor of Communication (Honours)

Summary

Students who perform well during the Bachelor of Communication degree may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Honours degree allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest in Communication Studies.

As rapid change in communication and media-related industries makes employment prospects unpredictable, the advantage given to job applicants who hold an Honours degree is invaluable.

Their skills and knowledge will be applicable to broadcasting, corporate communications, marketing and public relations, journalism and education.

They may seek work as researchers, writers and producers of video and radio programs, as journalists and photo-journalists, and as magazine and advertising copy writers.

Graduates have also been successful in securing employment in media liaison or public relations units of large corporate organisations.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Communication or equivalent program with normally at least a credit grade average in the discipline(s) in which the Honours is to be undertaken and any other additional work which may be prescribed by the Faculty Board.

The program aims to produce graduates who will have a well-developed capacity to think critically and creatively about society and culture and their relationships with research into professional communication practices; and a well-developed capacity to creatively and critically produce and research professional communication.
