Students who perform well during the Bachelor of Social Science degree may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Honours degree allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest.
Career opportunities
With increasing competition in all sectors of employment students who graduate with an honours degree have a distinct advantage.
Some graduates may pursue careers in the area of their major, and others may be employed on the basis of skills acquired through their University study.
Common areas of employment for Bachelor of Social Science graduates include teaching and social research for government bodies. Graduates of the welfare specialisation may find work with a variety of government and private welfare agencies.
Entry requirements
Completion of a Bachelor of Social Science or equivalent program with normally at least a credit grade average based on all studies undertaken in the program and/or in the approved major in which Honours is to be undertaken and any other additional work as may be prescribed by the Faculty Board. Applications are made direct to the University.
