Master of Business Administration (2005 - 2006)

Summary

This program information only applies to students who commenced the Master of Business Administration in 2005 and 2006.  Students who commenced prior to 2005 should refer to the pre 2005 information.  Students commencing from 2007 onwards should refer to the 2007 onwards information.

The Business Administration program is designed to provide students with a range of analytic, strategic and leadership skills which will prepare them for increasingly competitive careers in business management in the corporate and public sectors.

The program offers a grounding in fundamental business areas such as accounting, finance, organisational behaviour, economics, marketing and management. Analytic and problem solving skills are emphasised through an applied understanding of the theoretical framework within which today's managers must operate, as well as the acquisition of practical skills in teamwork, writing, presentation and time-management. The ability to cope with rapid organisational and technological change is developed through an understanding of organisational behaviour, information systems and organisational change and development.

This is a fee paying program. Australian students may be able to participate in the Higher Education Loans Program (FEE-HELP).

Program duration

Enrolment is available on a part-time or full-time basis. The Newcastle Graduate School of Business runs courses on a trimester system, ie. three terms per year. Students may commence studies in January, May or September. Some electives in this program are held in the semester system, ie. two terms per year. Admission criteria

Applicants must have a recognised Bachelor degree or Postgraduate Diploma or a recognised Graduate Certificate; or a recognised Diploma and two years work experience; or a GMAT score of 550.

International applicants must also satisfy the University's English Language Requirements.

The program in which a student enrols is largely determined on the basis of qualifications and experience. Students with substantial work experience but who lack formal qualifications will probably enter at Graduate Certificate level. Students with relevant experience and a first degree will most likely enrol directly into the MBA program.

Program Structure - For students who commenced in 2005 and 2006

The following requirements apply for the Master of Business Administration and the nested programs:

Graduate Certificate in Business Administration

The program consists of two courses (20 units) selected from Section A Prescribed Courses and a further two courses (20 units) from Section A or Section B Directed Elective Courses.

Master of Business

The program consists of six courses (60 units) selected from Section A Prescribed Courses and two courses (20 units) from Section B Directed Electives.

Master of Business Administration

The MBA program consists of twelve courses (120 units). Students are required to complete nine (90 units) Section A Prescribed Courses and three (30 units) Section B Directed Elective Courses.

The Graduate Certificate in Business Administration and the Master of Business are exit awards for the Master of Business Administration.

NOTE: NOT ALL THE COURSES LISTED BELOW ARE AVAILABLE AT ALL LOCATIONS.
