All courses offered at the Sydney campus in the Master of Professional Accounting(MPAc) component of the Master of Professional Accounting/Master of Business will be on a semester basis. All courses in the Master of Business courses will be offered on a Trimester basis.

Please note there is no intake into this program from 2012. Students wishing to enrol in the Master of Professional Accounting/Master of Business will enrol in the new Program which can be accessed at: http://www.newcastle.edu.au/program/12267.html .

The Master of Professional Accounting/Master of Business is designed for students with a degree in a field other than Accounting who wish to obtain a sound introduction to accounting and business concepts and procedures. The program encompasses study in finance, general management, taxation law and auditing, marketing, human resources management, International business, E-business and entrepreneurship.

All students can now enrol in an undergraduate Diploma in Languages alongside their main degree program. This diploma will enhance proficiency in another language or languages, and will increase international career opportunities. Subject to course availability, this additional program will generally add an extra year to studies, and students will graduate with a Diploma in Languages as well as their other degree. Please note that all language courses are held on campus (face to face) at Callaghan.

Applicants must have a recognised Bachelor degree or Postgraduate Diploma or a recognised Graduate Certificate; or a recognised Diploma and 2 years work experience; or a GMAT score of 550; or successfully completed 20 units of postgraduate University studies with a GPA of 5 or more and two years work experience; or successfully completed 30 units of postgraduate University studies with a GPA of 4 or more and two years work experience.

International students must also satisfy the University's English Language requirements.

Credit may be granted by the Pro Vice-Chancellor on a case-by-case basis according to the Rules Governing Postgraduate Coursework Awards.

The Master of Professional Accounting is accredited by the Professional Accounting Bodies of CPA Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA).

Graduation from an accredited accounting program facilitates initial entry to Associate membership of CPA Australia and (subject to employment and supervision requirements) eligibility for enrolment in the ICAA's CA Program.

Students completing the program will meet the academic requirements for Associate membership of CPA Australia and enrolment in the CPA Program, and for enrolment in the Chartered Accountants Program of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

International students will be supported by the University and the Newcastle Business School's current support mechanisms. There will be a requirement for a minimum 6.5 IELTS result or equivalent.

The Master of Professional Accounting/Master of Business requires students to complete 160 units of study. This is gained through completion of fourteen core courses worth 10 units each, and two directed courses from one of the available specialisations.

Grading of Degree

A Master degree shall be conferred as an Ordinary Degree, except that, in cases where a candidate has achieved a Grade Point Average of 6.0 or above, the degree shall be conferred "With Distinction".
