The goal of the Graduate Certificate of Business Research is to increase the research skills of students who may wish to pursue further research study such as a MPhil or PhD.
The University of Newcastle Graduate Certificate is a coursework program that focuses on research training. The program includes 20 units of research methods, and 20 units of dissertation preparation which includes literature review and research proposal. The program will develop in graduates analytical and critically self-reflective skills.

International students will be supported by the University and Newcastle Business School's current support mechanisms. There will be a requirement for a minimum 6.5 IELTS result or equivalent.

Students will a disability or chronic illness will have their needs met by the NBS in liaison with the Student Support Unit. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Higher Education Centre, Umuliko.

The Graduate Certificate of Business Research is designed for students without the necessary research skills to undertake a postgraduate research degree. The program will also allow a point of exit for students of the DBA program who are unable to complete their dissertation.

The Graduate Certificate program is offered over one semester of full-time study. The program requires completion of four (40 units) research training courses including two research methods courses, literature review (10 units) and research proposal (10 units).
