The MPH is an 80 credit point postgraduate Master of Public Health. The program includes 4 core courses and 4 elective which can be selected from a range of options. The program will be offered in both on campus and online modes.
The aim of the MPH is to provide graduates with the skills required to improve population health, through appropriate planning and evaluation, assess determinants of health and illness, develop and implement effective and efficient approaches to health services and programs and to demonstrate specialist skills in research and professional practice in the field population health practice, health promotion, health management, research methodology or medical statistics, depending on the student¿s chosen field.

This program will provide an opportunity for individuals to undertake professional development and develop a strong foundation in public health. The program will be of interest to individuals of all ages, at any stage of their career, who have a basic undergraduate degree and are working in, or intending to work in, the area of public health. This includes clinicians and allied health professionals, health planners and managers, individuals working in health promotion, health protection or health surveillance. The program has a strong quantitative component, and builds on a good national and international profile of the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, based on 25 years of postgraduate education and 18 years of distance learning.

It is envisaged that Public Health Practice graduates will work in Public Health Units, State and Commonwealth Departments, General Practice and Non-government organisations and academic institutions.
Health Promotion graduates will be able to function as health educators, health promotion officers and field scientist/practitioners in a wide range of Federal and State agencies.
Research Methodology and Medical Statistics - graduates will be working in the design and implementation of population based and clinical research studies within Universities, Public Health Units and Clinical Services, State and Commonwealth Departments and Non-government organisations. Health Management graduates will be working or planning to work as public health administrators, managers as well as clinicians and medical practitioners and provide essential managements skills.

Bachelor Degree in an approved health related discipline or have other qualifications approved by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Health. International students must have attained the relevant IELTS standard.

The program is structured to provide opportunities for international students. Applicants will be assessed on an individual basis. Strategies for program-specific online student support will be developed in consultation with participating students. Additionally, they will be encouraged to avail themselves of existing University support networks and services.

Under Academic Senate resolution (01:335) (28 November 2001), the Faculty accepts that it is responsible for providing reasonable accommodations for students with special needs, in liaison with the Student Support Unit, which offers practical assistance and advice to students with a disability or chronic illness. The Faculty will seek advice from the Student Support Unit as to what constitutes "reasonable accommodations" under Anti-Discrimination legislation.

Applicants for the MPH should hold a Bachelor Degree in an approved health related discipline or have other qualifications approved by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Health. The program requires completion of 80 credit points, and can be undertaken on campus or online, in full time or part time mode. There are 40 credit points of core courses:
PUBH6300 Introduction to Public Health
PUBH6302 Social and Ecosystem Health
EPID6420 Epidemiology A
BIOS6910 Biostatistics A
In addition to 4 elective courses chosen from an extensive list of approved courses. Students can chose generic or more specialised options, with "streams" in the areas of public health practice, research methodology, health promotion, health management or medical statistics.
