Bachelor of Health Science (Honours)

The Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) program allows students to further develop research and presentation skills in a supervised setting, adding to the collection of evidence supporting the undergraduate programs available within Health Science.

The School of Health Sciences is a vibrant and growing academic area and is currently focusing on its research. This is primarily conducted with health care professionals, both employed within the University and in local health care sector.

Graduate of the initial Health Science undergraduate programs are highly regarded and mostly employed prior to completion of the program in public and private workplace organisations and/or medical facilities.

Graduates of the Honours degree take with them into clinical or research positions the ability to implement research or quality assurance procedures in a range of topics.

The Honours degree is seen by employers as an added skill and has been used by previous graduates to pursue higher positions and salaries.

Applicants must have successfully completed a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science, Bachelor of Occupational Health & Safety, Bachelor of Oral Health, Bachelor of Podiatry or other program of equivalent content with a GPA of 5.0 or higher and standing as approved by the PVC Health.

Applicants who have completed the 4 year programs in Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, who have the required standard but who have not undertaken the embedded Honours programs in those degrees as a research year, are able to apply for entry to this program. Application is made direct to the Faculty of Health.

• It is recommended that students have organised a research topic and an appropriate supervisor.

No credit is available for Model 1 Honours.

Class I: mark of 85% or over in the 80 honours units and the minimum of 75 for the dissertation/ project;

Class II Division 1: mark of 75% - 84% in 80 honours units and an average mark of over 65% for the dissertation/ project;

Class II Division 2: mark of 65% - 74% in 80 honours units;

Class III: mark of 50% - 64% in 80 honours units.

Projects will be directly relevant to the various fields of study, but students will not be permitted to undertake projects for which they are not professionally qualified.

This degree does not offer professional recognition but may be used by professionally recognised students as part of their professional development requirements.
