The Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) is a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) program that allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest in Information Technology and is a pathway into Research Higher Degree study.

Applicants must have successfully complete a Bachelor of Information Technology or an equivalent program with a minimum GPA of 5.0 (credit grade average) calculated from;
- Across the entire degree program; or
- Across a major in the proposed discipline of study, if that degree program includes such a major; or
- Across 80 units of 3000 level courses (which must include at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists); or
- Where the applicant has completed less than 80 units at 3000 level, a GPA of 5.5 calculated from at least 60 units of 3000 level courses (which must include at least 40 units of 3000 level courses in the major where a major exists).
In exceptional circumstances, the above requirements may be varied with permission of the Head of School and Pro-Vice Chancellor.
No more that two years must have elapsed since completion of the undergraduate degree.

There are three classes of Honours: Class I, Class II and Class III. Class II will have two divisions, namely Division 1 and Division 2. The support structures of the Student Support Unit will be available to assist any students with a disability or chronic illness. The Faculty and School accepts responsibility, in liaison with the Student Support Unit, for providing reasonable accommodations to allow students with disabilities to complete the program. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will draw on the assistance and support provided by the Wollotuka Indigenous Support Unit.

This 1 year full-time (or equivalent part-time) degree provides an extension to the Bachelor of Information Technology program and is offered at the Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses. Some coursework may require attendance at Callaghan campus.
The degree is mainly research-based and the student will undertake research under supervision by academic staff in the discipline. The student will learn the formal research methodologies and techniques used in the discipline through coursework, and will apply these to original research work within the field of IT. The student's main outcome will be a research based thesis that describes their original research contribution in an area of IT. Students must complete all 80 units of core courses.
