The Master of Social Science (Honours) program is designed for students with a distinction grade average in 80 units of the courses for the coursework Master of Social Science degree. It enables students to pursue a 40 unit minor thesis option. Students are expected to successfully complete a 15,000-20,000 word minor thesis on a topic selected in consultation with a nominated supervisor from the School of Social Sciences. The course can be undertaken full-time over one semester or part-time over two semesters.

This program allows the student to utilise critical analysis and skills associated with critical questioning and the synthesis of knowledge. Students will also develop skills in planning, implementing and managing social research, social policy and social programs.

Career opportunities are available in government and non-government areas in keeping with the specialisations undertaken in the program.

Admission to the Master of Social Science (Honours) requires the application after the successful completion of the Master of Social Science with a GPA of 6.0 (distinction average).
