Students must satisfy a minimum standard of qualifications and/or experience and basic computer literacy and music skills.

Qualifications and/or Experience

Relevant academic qualifications from a recognised tertiary institution (for example, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree) and/or relevant and proven professional experience in music, music technology, film/multimedia, music education or equivalent field as considered appropriate. (This may include experience gained through paid and/or voluntary work.)

Students must be able to operate computing equipment at an elementary level.

Students must also possess an understanding of key areas of music. This may include:

  • a rudimentary understanding of music theory
  • basic score reading
  • common musical terminology
  • musical aural perception

The Faculty of Education & Arts accepts responsibility for providing reasonable accommodations for students with special needs, in liaison with student support unit, which offers practical advice to students with a disability or chronic illness.

The School of Drama, Fine Art and Music liaises with the Student Support Unit regarding students with special needs.

Back to topRequirements and Structure

The program requires the completion of a total of 40 units. Students may undertake 20 units each trimester over two trimesters but may undertake a single course per trimester if they wish. The program requires the completion of the core course and three directed courses. The courses must be chosen with at least one course taken from each Group A and B. Students are encouraged to customise the program as as to be relevant to their particular occupation or interest.

The program is studied via online learning and is supported by e-mail and the Internet. Refer to course descriptions for further information.

Students who have sufficient Admission Points to enter at the Graduate Certificate level (but have insufficient points to directly enter at the Masters level) will be eligible to enter the Master of Music Technology program upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Music Technology providing a Grade Point Average of 5.0 (i.e. credit) is achieved.
