This program provides graduates from diverse undergraduate disciplines with training and analytical skills in finance. Students will gain core financial management skills, an understanding of Australian and international financial markets, knowledge of derivative assets and markets, analytical skills for interpreting and analysing developments in finance practice, and applied knowledge of various specialised aspects of the finance industry.

Applicants must have a recognised Diploma or a recognised Certificate and two years work experience or ten years work experience.

International students will be supported by the University and the Newcastle Graduate School of Business current support mechanisms. There will be a requirement for a minimum 6.5 IELTS result or equivalent.

International applicants must also satisfy the University's English Language Requirements.

Domestic students with a disability or chronic illness will have their needs met by the NGSB in liaison with the Student Support Unit. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Higher Education Centre, Umulliko. Students from rural and isolated areas and those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds will e supported through existing University and NGSB support structures.

The Newcastle Graduate School of Business runs courses on a trimester system, i.e. three terns per year. Students may commence studies in January, May or September. Please check term dates on the University website at: www.newcastle.edu.au/dates/.

The Graduate Certificate in Applied Finance requires completion of four courses (40 units). Students are required to complete two of the core courses (20 units) and two courses (20 units) from the remaining core or from the Directed Courses.

Students enrolled under the previous program structure will be allowed to meet their prescribed course requirements by taking GSBS6130 Corporate Finance, GSBS6140 Investment Analysis and GSBS6145 International Financial Management (a substitute for GECO6420 International Finance and Trade).
