This degree program provides students with an an opportunity to undertake concurrent study and complete two awards. In general, the combined degree program offers greater breadth of learning, enhancing the academic and professional qualities gained in each degree. At the same time, it recognises the increasing need for students to graduate with multidisciplinary skills.

You will obtain an excellent knowledge foundation in both Business and Chemical Engineering. You will have the opportunity to apply your gained knowledge in both fields at an advanced level. Combined degree courses offer increased breadth of learning, recognising the multidisciplinary nature of today's working environments. This degree will increasingly open career paths in both technical and business areas.
You will have access to world class facilities and you will be taught by high quality teaching staff from across the world who maintain an active role within their industry. The degree is accredited nationally and internationally, and you are encouraged to internationalise your degree by participating in the University's exchange program. You will also have the opportunity to undertake an industry-related project in your final year of study and must also complete a period of industrial experience during the program.

Career choices for combined degree graduates are diverse and can include positions as professional chemical engineers in manufacturing, the pharmaceutical and food industries, computer and electronic industries, metal and mineral industries as well as in business fields of management, industrial relations and human resource management, marketing, tourism and hospitality management foreign economic relations, international trade, international marketing and investments and small and medium enterprise management.

Assumed Knowledge for Chemical Engineering:
There are no prerequisite courses but it is assumed that students will have studied Mathematics (Band 5) or HSC Mathematics Extension 1 (Band E1 or above) or equivalent. Study of one science-related subject would also be an advantage. Applicants who have achieved less than Mathematics Band 5 or have not completed a science related subject may be admitted to the program but may need additional study and/or assistance to successfully complete the requirements of the program.

The B Engineering (Chemical) component of this combined degree program uses the WAM as a measure for determining honours, and shall grade on the WAM equivalent to the following grades (in accordance with the Embedded Honours Models Structures Policy - 000743):
A minimum WAM of 77 and a minimum mark of 75 in the research courses (at least 30 units) for Honours Class 1; a minimum WAM of 72 and a minimum mark of 65 in the research courses (at least 30 units) for Honours Class II, Division 1; a minimum WAM of 67 and a minimum mark of 65 in the research courses (at least 30 units) for Honours Class II, Division 2;
Performance is based on a three year WAM where 2000, 3000 and 4000 level courses are weighted by 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
A Bachelor of Business (Honours) is also available to meritorious students, as an extra year of full-time or equivalent part-time study. For further information on Honours please contact the Program Convenor or Student Hub.

This program is accredited by Engineers Australia, the Institute of Chemical Engineers UK, and many other affiliated international organisations, through the Washington Accord.
Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)/Bachelor of Business are eligible to apply for membership to Engineers Australia and the Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Back to topRequirements and Structure
The chemical engineering and business combined program comprises a minimum of 400 units and is available at Callaghan Campus. Students must complete the prescribed program.
To meet the current requirements for the Bachelor of Business component of the degree, students must complete a minimum of 160 units of courses that comprise: all Core Courses listed, and the Management major sequence prescribed for the degree. The Management major sequence of study consists of at least 20 units of directed courses at the 2000 level and 40 units of compulsory and directed courses at the 3000 level.
Note that it may not be possible to complete the combined degree program within five years, if selection of electives involves timetable clashes, or where elective courses are not offered in a particular year. Students enrolled in a combined degree program are advised to consult the Program Convenor or Student Hub for further information in relation to their academic program.
