Students who perform well, with a GPA of 5.0 or greater, during the Bachelor of Social Science program or equivalent program and/or relevant discipline major, may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Honours program allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest.

The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) approved sequence in Psychology is not available for students who commenced the Bachelor of Social Science program from 2012. Any students who commenced prior to 2012 and who are studying the accredited sequence in Psychology, please review the Transition Arrangements section.

Back to topWhy study with us? (click to hide)

Students who have completed a Bachelors degree in social science or related disciplines and who qualify for entrance to the Honours program are encouraged to complete their studies by undertaking an Honours year which involves course work and the successful completion of an individual thesis project under academic supervision.

Back to topCareer Opportunities (click to hide)

With increasing competition in all sectors of employment students who graduate with an honours degree have a distinct advantage.

Some graduates may pursue careers in the area of their major, and others may be employed on the basis of skills acquired through their University study.

Common areas of employment for Bachelor of Social Science graduates include teaching and social research for government bodies. Graduates of the welfare specialisation may find work with a variety of government and private welfare agencies.

All students can now enrol in an undergraduate Diploma in Languages alongside their main degree program. This diploma will enhance proficiency in another language or languages, and will increase international career opportunities. Subject to course availability, this additional program will generally add an extra year to studies, and students will graduate with a Diploma in Languages as well as their other degree. Please note that all language courses are held on campus (face to face) at Callaghan.
