Back to topDescription (click to hide)

The Bachelor of Commerce is your first step to becoming a fully qualified accountant or undertaking careers in finance and economics. You'll be exposed to industry-relevant areas of study including the opportunity to specialise in one of three major sequences: Accounting, Economics, Finance. As accountancy and financial management are at the very heart of all organisations, you'll find commerce is a field offering enormous scope and opportunity.

Back to topWhy study with us? (click to hide)

Many of our graduates have gone on to land great jobs, not just in Australia but in Asia, the United States and Europe. According to the 2008 Good Universities Guide, 98 per cent of our graduates seeking employment found employment within four months of graduating.

There are three major sequences of study offered in the degree program:

  • Finance (not available at Ourimbah Campus)
  • Accounting
  • Economics (not available at Ourimbah Campus)

Back to topCareer Opportunities (click to hide)

Commerce graduates have a wide choice of careers including positions in professional accounting, business management, senior administration, banking and finance. A finance specialisation opens up careers in international banking, international finance, investment management, treasury management, money market operations and financial forecasting. Career choices for Economics graduates include public and private sector positions in finance and securities analysis, and in policy analysis and development in government. Careers are also available in investment analysis, labour market research, taxation economics and in treasury positions in banking and environmental planning.

More careers information is available at: http://newcastle.edu.au//students/degrees-to-careers/

Back to topStudy a language (click to hide)

All students can now enrol in an undergraduate Diploma in Languages alongside their main degree program. This diploma will enhance proficiency in another language or languages, and will increase international career opportunities. Subject to course availability, this additional program will generally add an extra year to studies, and students will graduate with a Diploma in Languages as well as their other degree. Please note that all language courses are held on campus (face to face) at Callaghan.
