We currently have 15 majors and 16 minors to choose from.
As the program is offered on both the Newcastle and Central Coast campuses, courses from either campus may be counted towards the Bachelor of Arts, provided that you meet the program requirements.

Students who perform well during the Bachelor of Arts degree with a credit average (GPA of 5.0) or greater, may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Honours degree allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest.

Psychology Studies Major/Minor:
This major/minor is for students with a general interest in Psychology & for those who see Psychology as complementary to their other majors/minors within the Bachelor of Arts. From 2012 it will no longer be accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Students who commenced the program in 2012 or after & who wish to complete an accredited Psychology program, are advised to apply for admission to the 4 year Bachelor of Psychology program.
Students who already possess knowledge of the French language (eg HSC Continuers or equivalent) are advised to consult with the French Studies Discipline Convenor BEFORE enrolling into the French Studies (Intermediate Sequence).
Students who already possess knowledge of the Japanese language (eg HSC Continuers or equivalent) are advised to consult with the Japanese Studies Discipline Convenor BEFORE enrolling into the Japanese Studies (Intermediate Sequence).
All students can access additional learning development mechanisms provided by the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Student Support and Development service through the Wollotuka Institute.

STUDENTS WHO COMMENCED IN 2013 OR LATER
This program requires the successful completion of 240 units. Students must complete one of the following structures:
1) DOUBLE MAJOR OPTION: Two 80 unit Majors & 80 units of electives
OR
2) SINGLE MAJOR & DOUBLE MINOR OPTION: One 80 unit Major, two 40 unit Minors & 80 units of electives.
Note: Students must complete between 40-100 units at each level (eg 1000 level, 2000 level, 3000 level). Please ensure you do not exceed 100 units at each level when choosing electives.
MAJOR/S (excluding French/Japanese Studies Intermediate Sequence majors):
A major must comprise of 80 units of compulsory & directed courses from one area as follows:
•20 units at 1000 level (including all 1000 level compulsory courses)
•20 units at 2000 level (incl. all 2000 level compulsory courses)
•40 units at 3000 level (incl. all 3000 level compulsory courses).
MINORS (excluding French/Japanese Studies Intermediate Sequence minors):
A minor must comprise of 40 units of compulsory & directed courses from one area as follows:
•20 units at 1000 level (incl. all 1000 level compulsory courses)
•20 units at 2000 level (incl. all 2000 level compulsory courses).
FRENCH STUDIES (INTERMEDIATE SEQUENCE): Please consult with the French Studies Discipline Convenor before enrolling in this sequence.

All students, please note:

3)Full-time enrolment (80 units per yr) will enable program completion in 3 yrs. Students may enrol in less per yr but completion will take proportionately longer. You must complete this program in 8 yrs.

Please Note:

• Students are permitted to complete max. 100 units of 1000 level courses in this program
• In 2013, courses for majors/minors were streamlined. Pre-2013 students are permitted to enrol in available courses as outlined in the BA pre-2013 Program Information document, located in the Further Information section above
• In 2012 a number of majors were modified. Students who were working towards the completion of two majors that were combined (eg 'Drama’ major & ‘Creative Arts’ major became the combined ‘Creative & Performing Arts’ major) are able to complete a 160 unit major in the combined area. Within these 160 units, min. 80 units must be at 3000 level
• 2005-11 (inclusive) students currently working towards the completion of a Chinese major will be able to complete this major in full
• 2005-11 (inclusive) students studying the 120 unit APAC approved sequence of courses in Psychology followed by an accredited fourth year, will be able to complete the accredited sequence, but must do so within a limited time. Students should seek independent advice from the School of Psychology & their Program Officer
