Career Summary

Biography

Ryan O’Neill was born in Glasgow in 1975 and lived in Africa, Europe and Asia before settling in Newcastle, Australia. He is the Newstep Academic Literacies coordinator at the Callaghan campus.

Ryan is the author of several books, including Their Brilliant Careers: The Fantastic Lives of Sixteen Extraordinary Australian Writers, which was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin award, and won the Prime Minister's Literary Award.

An esteemed academic and author from the University of Newcastle has received the highly-competitive Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Fiction for his novel that provides a satiric take on the history of Australian literature.
