I began my career as a secondary History/English teacher, and spent 18 years working in schools as a classroom teacher. In 2007 I moved into education consultancy, working with schools and groups of teachers on professional development and the NSW Quality Teaching model. In 2008 I joined the School of Education at the University of Newcastle, where I am based at the Callaghan Campus. I have a strong interest in innovative pedagogy and teacher professional development, and I continue to work with schools in these areas.
Research Expertise My key areas of research to date have related to teacher professional development and pedagogical reform. I also have a strong interest in emerging learning technologies.
Teaching Expertise As an in-service teacher educator, I have a history of teaching in the area of pedagogy across primary and secondary schools contexts. Since beginning at the University of Newcastle in January 2008, I have been responsible for teaching the following courses: EDUC2101 (Introduction to Specialist Studies -Callaghan Campus) EDUC2050, EDUC4090, EDUC6250 and EDUC6590 (Specialist Studies in English - Callaghan Campus) EDUC6200 (Productive Classroom Practice - Callaghan Campus and Weblearn) EDUC1751 (Knowledge and Information Technologies -Callaghan Campus), EDUC6168 (Teachers, Learners & Schooling), EDUC6166 (ResearchingTeaching), EDUC6771 (Quality Teaching Secondary), EDUC6761 (Quality Teaching Primary),EDUC6773 (Reflective Secondary Teacher) and EDUC6774 (The Practicing Professionbal).
Collaborations I am currently working with Professor Jenny Gore within the Teachers and Teaching Research Centre, primarily researching the impact of Quality Teaching Rounds on developing classroom practice.
