Career Summary

Biography

I have worked in academic and professional roles at the University of Newcastle since 2001.  I have tutored and guest lectured in Australian History courses since 2008, and am currently the course coordinator for HUMA3003 Arts Practicum. As someone who champions life long learning, I value the experiences gained while previously teaching in the vocational and secondary education systems.

In my professional role as a research assistant, I have been involved in many projects across various Faculties and Schools.  These include the Hunter Community Study, the Aged Care Needs Assessment Study, Fractured Neck of Femur Study, the Study into the Health of Aircraft Maintenance Personnel, and Complementary and Alternative Medicine Degrees. I am currently involved in archival research for the Global Newcastle Research Network project.

My doctoral thesis entitled "Within reach, beyond care: an examination of medical care during the Papuan (Kokoda) Campaign 1942-43 through the lens of the Australian field ambulance" examined the work of these military medical units and considered wider themes associated with military medicine and historiographical representations of Kokoda.  I continue to explore these subjects via research, writing journal articles, and presenting at conferences.
