1.      Qualification for the Degree

1.1.     To qualify for admission to the degree a candidate shall satisfactorily complete a program of study approved by the Academic Senate comprising:

1.1.1.       a total of 320 units;

1.1.2.       a maximum of 120 units at 1000 level;

1.1.3.       a minimum of 60 units at 3000 level;

1.1.4.       an approved structured sequence of courses of not less than 120 units including 40 units at 4000 level;

1.1.5.       any compulsory program components (Note 1).

2.      Time requirements

2.1.     The candidate shall complete the award in the time outlined in the Maximum Time for Completion of Programs and Schedules 000962, except where indicated in program documentation and recorded as an appendix to this Schedule.

3.      Grading of the Degree

3.1.     The degree will be awarded as an ordinary degree, or

3.2.     The degree will be awarded 'with Distinction' to those students who gain a minimum GPA of 6.0 based on all studies undertaken in the program; or

3.3.     The degree will be awarded with honours according to the program structure and formula approved by the Academic Senate.

The classes of Honours shall be as follows:

  1. Class I;
  2. Class II.  Class II shall have two Divisions, namely Division 1 and Division II; and
  3. Class III.  Class III shall only be available to those students enrolled in programs offered as Embedded+ Honours.

4.      List of Approved Programs

4.1.     This Schedule applies to the programs approved by the Academic Senate for listing in the Appendix.

Notes:

1.     A compulsory program component is a course or other element in a program which is:

i) defined as compulsory in the approved program documentation and included in the ehandbook entry; and

ii) either graded or ungraded; and

iii) required to be completed satisfactorily to either progress in the program or satisfy program requirements.

Compulsory program components are typically elements which have a requisite associated with a placement or activity (this definition does not include core courses in the program).

2.     The programs were transferred from the 320 Unit Double Degree Program Schedule from Term 1, 2011 by Academic Senate 08 June 2011 (AS11:083).

Amendment History

Minor amendment - Change of Policy Sponsor to Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) to reflect structural changes from 1 January 2013, The Secretariat, 13 May 2013.

Minor amendments: Updating the contact information for further queries on the Honours policy working party; amendment to Clause 2.1 to include the Maximum Time for Completion of Programs Schedule 000962. This schedule replaces Clause 15 of the Rules Governing Undergraduate Awards Rule 000311 that was rescinded by Council 14 October 2011. Effected by Governance and Policy 30 April 2012.

Council approved the transfer of the Bachelor of Psychology from the appendix to the new Bachelor of Psychology and Bachelor of Psychology Science Schedule 000979 (C12:049) 23 March 2012.
