The Glenn and Ken Moss scholarship offers top ups to successful domestic applicants, within the field of Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics who have been offered an APA scholarship.

The late Dr Ken Moss was a leader of great integrity who was deeply committed to our University, to the city of Newcastle and to the region. A Newcastle alumnus, he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Hons) in 1968 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering in 1974. Dr Moss was a foundation board member of the Hunter Medical Research Institute from 2000 to 2004. 

He held numerous CEO and Board positions with major national and international companies including Howard Smith and NAB.  In June 2010 Ken retired as Boral Chairman after a decade with the building products maker. He was a member of University Council from 2010, and was appointed as Chancellor in May 2013.

Eligibility Conditions

Priority will be given to applicants enrolled in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment on a full-time basis.  Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics students enrolled in other disciplines may be considered.

The scholarship is open to domestic applicants only.

Applicants can:

  • be enrolled in a PhD or Masters by Research; and
  • hold another scholarship top up for the same program.

Selection Process

A small committee chaired by the Deputy Head of School or nominee, will consider all applications for this scholarship and will provide recommendations to the Head of School of Engineering for approval.

Application procedure

Complete an application for admission form and write 'Dr Ken Moss RHD Scholarship' on the top. If you are already a research higher degree candidate, please also write 'Scholarship only' on the front page. The application form and prospectus can be found here:
