The Hunter Expressway is expected to be opened about the same time that you receive this newsletter. This is a 40 kilometre road linking Seahampton to Branxton and was built to strict environment standards aimed at minimising the project's impact on the environment.

The Regent Honeyeater has a black head, neck and upper breast, a lemon yellow back and breast scaled black, with the underparts graded into a white rump, black wings with yellow patches and a black tail edged yellow. Females are smaller. The species is gregarious, moves in flocks and heads are bobbed when calling.

The Powerful Owl Project is now in its second year on the Central Coast and Newcastle and fourth year in Sydney. 56 fantastic volunteers from the Central Coast & Newcastle area joined the project last year to monitor Powerful Owl breeding across 23 urban sites in the region.

Febeerary was the month for Native Stingless Bee Workshops in Newcastle. Thanks to generous support from the Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment and Newcastle City Council, 120 native bee enthusiasts were fortunate to experience a very practical workshop from Australia's leading stingless bee experts Dr Tim Heard (CSIRO entomologist) and Tony Goodrich (native bee apiarist).
