Paracetamol and pain
Paracetamol does not speed recovery or reduce pain for people with acute low back ache, according to the results of a trial by HMRI researcher Dr Chris Williams.
Dr Williams found that the popular pain medicine was no better than a placebo for easing pain levels, function, sleep or quality of life. Almost 1700 people took part in the study.
The results showed little difference in the number of days to recovery between the treatment groups, with the average being 17 days for those given paracetamol and 16 days for the placebo group.
