Professor Yong-Ling Ruan honored to attend Science Meets Parliament
Professor Yong-Ling Ruan, the Director of Australia China Research Centre for Crop Improvement (ACRCCI), was honored to be invited by the Australian Society of Plant Scientists to attend the Science Meets Parliament (SMP) on the 1st and 2nd of March, 2016 in Canberra.
The SMP aims to provide scientists unique opportunities to build mutual understanding and connections with parliamentarians and to better understand the policy process on science and innovation that underpin Australia’s economic, social and environmental wellbeing.
Professor Ruan said the two-day event has proven a very rewarding experience. It helped better appreciate the nature and the procedure of formulating science-related policies and decisions at the government levels. He took the opportunity to network with politicians and journalists and fellow scientists and to advocate Australian plant science to the politicians. The insert shows a photo of Prof Ruan with Hon Christopher Pyne, MP, and Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science at the Gala diner following his keynote speech and discussion with Prof Ruan in the Parliament House.
